The Gouverneur Fire Department is a 60 Member Volunteer Fire Department, which is comprised of 3 Fire Companies; Hose Company 1, Hose Company 2, & Rescue Hook and Ladder Company. Each of these companies consists of 20 Members. There are 2 wardens per company along with a Past Chief that takes care of the Department business. There is also an active Exempt Organization.
The Gouverneur Fire Department is a solely Volunteer Fire department unlike others that may have paid Drivers and or Fire Fighters
They have annual elections to elect their Chief, 1st Assistant & 2nd Assistant Chief for the Company. A monthly meeting for each company along with at monthly Department meeting is held for the Fire Fighters.
The Fire Fighters hold a variety of events throughout the year. Some of the events that they have are: Chicken B-B-Q’s in the summer, car washes in the summer, tours of the Fire Department and Trucks by Appointment, 4th of July Fire Works, Ice skating rink in the winter.
